The Lifeline Fund have been extremely prolific in recent years, adding many new improvements and developments to their flagship project in Malawi, the Namisu Orphan Village. This project has been tremendously successful, and has helped to feed, educate, clothe and house thousands of orphaned children since it opened back in 1999.
The latest addition to the Namisu Orphan Village is now under construction, and once completed, it will provide a much-needed facility for disabled children in the Malawi area. The Daycare Centre for Disabled Children will be located on the outskirts of the Orphan Village, and will be built on land donated by a generous and understanding woman whose own 5-year old son is severely disabled.
The mother of a disabled child will surely understand how difficult everyday life becomes for infants who are either born with a disability or develop one due to disease, especially in such a disadvantaged area as Malawi. In these situations, a great deal of strain is also felt by the parents or caregivers of these children, which is why there is a need for a new daycare centre.
The whole project will be purpose-built to cater to the specific needs of these disabled children. The carpenters constructing the main buildings intend to also make several aids to enable mobility, such as standing frames and push buggies, so that the children can move around easily.
