Overcoming adversity in Malawi

As well as doing great work to help orphaned children in Malawi, the Lifeline Fund has also been supporting people with disabilities, making their day-to-day lives easier and helping them achieve their goals.

Thanks to the Lifeline Fund and generous donations from numerous supporters, disabled people in Malawi are provided with better equipment to help them get around. They receive new wheelchairs and other devices tailored to their particular disability, enabling them to work, live and socialise more comfortably and easily.

Like all the other people in the many Lifeline Fund projects, disabled people are also offered many opportunities when it comes to work, careers and providing for themselves. Inspiring success stories of late include:

• Yanjanane, who learned metalwork skills when at the Namisu Orphan Village. Getting around in his new wheelchair, Yanjanane is able to smoothly run his own business, making and selling watering cans, containers and kitchen pots in Lunzu.
• Mr Monjeza – Despite having a disability that affects his day-to-day life, Mr Monjeza has been supported by the Lifeline Fund and now is a conscientious worker of the land at Namisu since 1999.
• Mr Malango, who is in charge of the irrigation of plants using solar pumped water at Namisu, is excellent at his work despite being partially sighted.
