The Lifeline Fund responds to the food crisis in Malawi

July 13, 2010
Posted in Lifeline Fund — Written by Dominic

Malawi has this year been suffering from a critical food shortage, after crops failed to yield as much maize as expected. This has left many areas without enough to eat, especially in more remote or isolated communities.
The Lifeline Fund, a charity with numerous projects throughout Malawi, immediately responded to this crisis as soon as the organisation’s coordinator became aware of it.

The Fund’s many projects have all been set up in areas considered to be the most vulnerable, which is where the food shortage may be most keenly felt. Although many of these villages – located in Namarita, Namisu, Kambilonjo, Lisungwe etc – are well established and relatively self-sufficient, it was still a struggle to secure enough food to last for the entire year.

Nonetheless, the Lifeline Fund’s coordinator has announced that they have bought enough maize to last until the next harvest, thanks to the generosity of many of the organisation’s funders and supporters.

With this food safely stored away, The Lifeline Fund can continue giving vulnerable people in Malawi the gifts of nutrition, education, healthcare and happiness. All are hoping that the next harvest will be better!
